San Diego, CA – November 17, 2011 - Targeson announces the introduction of TargesphereTM, a cationic delivery agent engineered for use in preclinical transfection research studies. Targesphere can be used for in vivo and in vitro transfection of plasmids, or DNA molecules. In vitro transfection is commonly performed by introducing DNA into cells using electroporation. Targesphere now offers researchers the advantage of being able to transfect cells in vivo. Transfection agents can be coupled to the surface of Targesphere by incubation and activated by a simple pulse of ultrasound energy for intracellular delivery. Targesphere is an example of Targeson’s expansion of its microsphere platform technology to other areas of important preclinical research. Targeson has also conducted proof of concept studies for its platform technology in the area of targeted optical imaging and is seeking strategic partners for development and commercialization.

 About Targeson, Inc.

Targeson develops, manufactures and markets ultrasound imaging agents for functional and molecular imaging applications in the research market. Targeson’s commercial products include: Targestar® P, a non-targeted ultrasound contrast agent designed to enhance and quantify blood flow and vascular function; Targestar P-HF, a perfusion contrast agent specifically designed to be used with high frequency ultrasound scanners; Targestar SA, a targetable ultrasound contrast agent enabling any biotinylated antibody or biomolecule to be coupled to a microsphere, making it suitable for a wide variety of molecular imaging applications including tumor angiogenesis, myocardial infarction, atherosclerotic plaque, thrombosis, organ transplant rejection and inflammatory diseases; Visistar® Integrin, a targeted ultrasound contrast agent coated with a peptide that binds integrin αvβ3; Visistar VEGFR2, a targeted ultrasound contrast agent coated with a VEGFR2 binding ligand, both indicated for molecular imaging of angiogenesis and tumor growth; and Visistar VCAM-1, a targeted ultrasound contrast agent indicated for molecular imaging of inflammation.
